Around 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the area, generating wind gusts topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Ice Stones and Broad Damage

Residents witnessed large ice chunks measuring up to seven centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that different parts across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Response teams were working to restore power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, around 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Rescue organizations received nearly 600 emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on the previous day, over 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both states.

Health Warning

Medical authorities alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to significant health impacts in the region.
