Tehran is prepared to resume atomic negotiations with the United States on condition that it is treated with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi said exclusively dialogue produced results, and disclosed recent overtures had come from go-betweens to reopen talks with the US government. He asserted Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran was not yet able to permit the International Atomic Energy Agency to access attacked atomic facilities for security reasons.

Navigating a Challenging Course

Araghchi is navigating a complex path since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be proceeding from a position of vulnerability, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged more resilient militarily and mentally from the joint assault on its nuclear sites in June.

He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will perpetually retain" – the main reason of the stalemate in the previous talks.

Earlier Talks Suddenly Concluded

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and acrimonious end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with Washington's assistance, attacked Iranian nuclear sites in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with the American leader claiming the locations had been eliminated. Following this, Western states employed their privilege to restore UN-wide sanctions, but Iran asserts they have not had a substantial consequence.

Tehran representatives stated they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the nuclear fuel concern in previous talks, when it was settled an domestic cooperative with Washington's engagement could process nuclear material. Both sides would have been able to claim victory since domestic enrichment would have persisted and the US could be confident that Iran's enrichment initiative was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been settled in the negotiations that Washington's technical specialists could function on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the consortium proposal. The Iranian foreign ministry has been charged of inactivity in the aftermath of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Iran says dialogue is not part of a performance.

In his remarks to the forum, designed to paint the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the idea of international law, Araghchi declared the two-week conflict revealed the conflict could not be ended by combat operations. He asserted the attacks started with a US demand for an unconditional Iranian surrender and culminated with an absolute demand for a halt to hostilities.

Iran is convinced the initial Israeli attacks were executed with total Washington understanding and cooperation, making faith difficult to reestablish.

The foreign minister declared: "It was not Iran that had deserted negotiations; it was the United States and the European states that had always sought to impose their will during the discussions. Negotiations can still be viable and remains the final solution to address disagreements, but its criteria, rules and tenets must be respected."
