Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
