2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Response
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
The news mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the full content from the president's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our players.
The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His management and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having spent the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.
David

Alternatively go big, risk it all, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."
The game does not have an official launch window or consoles, but fans can expect additional details as production advances.
